68 Camaro SS (Sidious) “Car of the Week”

Congrats to Brent Peterson of Hermosa South Dakota and his 68 Camaro SS who we met at the 2021 Heartland Nationals GoodGuys show in Des Moines! You are this weeks winner for Car of the Week! Here’s what’s in it! EngineLS1, heavily modified Transmission Tremec TKO 600, Brand of Wheels Forgestar CF5V, Brand of Tires Toyo Proxes T1 sport, Brand of Paint RM Diamond cyber gray metallic, Brand of Exhaust Custom Stainless Magna flow, Brand of Gauges Dakota Digital VHX, Brand of Suspension Ride Tech with CPP big brakes, Number of Years to build 5, Body Mods bumpers, spoilers & 69 valance. Here’s Brent’s story of the build.Car is an original SS car. I bought it right out of H.S in 1994 with hopes of someday building something i called a “Super Chevy Car” In 2013 I bought a TKO 600 and vintage air gen 4 system and my goal was to just do that. By the end of the memorial day holiday I had it all dissembled, everything separated and bagged. Then loaded on a trailer to be sand blasted. I wanted a total frame off custom resto mod. Everything new or replaced with lots of custom pieces for a clean but sinister resto-mod look The original frame I cleaned up the welds and flaws and had it powder coated. I installed the complete suspension, using Ride tech front true turn system with their drop spindles. The tubular A arms are CPP with their Big break kit both front and in the rear. Rear suspension is Ride Tech’s air bar 4-link. Viking double adjustable shocks all away around. All outside trim power coated with a textured flat black. Side markers smoothed. Smooth firewall, Mini tubed with 275/35/19 in front and 325/30/19 in the rear. Rims are forgestar and tires are Toyo. Front and rear bumpers removed. Custom front and rear spoilers. Custom 69 like front valance. Custom graphics. Custom engine cover and graphics. DSE electric RS headlight kit. Complete TMI Sport R series deluxe interior with trunk kit. Took a total of 5 years to build. 80% of the build I did myself. Paint scheme was designed by myself but body work and paint was applied by a good friend, Jim Brooks. He has over 30 years of experience and paints out of his garage. Car was actually completed in 3 years but the 468 big block I originally had threw a rod with only 37 miles on the car. This set me back another 2 years. I then built a radically modified LS1 out of 2002 Trans Am. Patriot LQ9 heads, Lingenfelter cam, FAST LSXR intake with 102 mm throttle body, billet front drive system, billet hood hinges, 4′ Spectre custom intake kit, Hooker headers with custom 2.5″ stainless exhaust with magnaflow mufflers, Holley sniper fuel system. Car puts out 500 HP (420 HP at the tires).
